Differentiating Four Types Of Hair Removal Methods

By Anthony Carter

Hair. We are covered with it. Some have more than an ample growth while others grow them only in tufts or patches. Hair had a number of beneficial functions during those times when our prehistoric predecessors still found shelter in caves and slept on the ground. Hair offered them with warmth, shade, and also a barrier to prevent insects from crawling and getting into body cavities.

At present, when most of us are now living indoors, an overabundant growth of hair in parts of the body such as the face, legs, underarms, and bikini line are thought of as unsanitary. Women suffer all the more with this negative imagery, as overabundant hair may easily become a reflection of how well they take care of themselves.

The unattractiveness of excess body hair has become a major issue for many women; thence, a number of hair removal products and methods are offered in the market to resolve this "hairy" issue.

Shaving cuts the hair off at the skin surface. It is the most convenient of all hair removal processes and also the most temporary means of keeping hair away.

Plucking - usually with the use of a pair of tweezers - is another hair removal process. Plucking hair off is painful for most women. Further, hair removal through this method takes so much time considering that one has to pull out the hair one strand at a time. One more thing: Anecdotal proof points to plucking as one of the main causes of infected sebum glands.

Another hair removal procedure is waxing. Waxing strips are warmed and then placed on the legs. The hair strands stick to the softened wax. Once cool enough, the strips are yanked off (ideally in a direction opposite to the hair growth); the hairs are pulled up from their follicles.

Laser is a painless and permanent method for removing excessive hair. Its methodology works by seeking out melanin, which is responsible for the dark pigment of the hair. Once melanin is vaporized, dark hair regrowth is nearly impossible.

If considering laser hair elimination, consult a certified dermatologic doctor to learn more about the pros and risks of this technology. You must do this for your own safety and protection.
